Henry is charming, weak, and always pandering to his desires for the easy life. He has an addictive personality which leads him to continually live in a world of half realized dreams. He trades in children no differently than Kieu's father did and hides it from the public through the marriage bureau. Even Ba Tu, the accountant for the business, is not aware of all the details. He is a gambler and at times has won spectacularly as he did when he won Ba Tu. However over time his losses at the tables have put him, his life style, and Ba Tu at risk. Thinking his charm will find a way through his present debt problems, he does not face reality soon enough and this is catastrophic for him.
